Vdotra Privacy Policy
Vdotra is a free Android app that works out paces, VDOT, VO₂max, race equivalents and track intervals for runners. It is funded by ads. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is stored and what data the ad network that serves the ads and the crash reporting service process.
1. Who we are
Vdotra is provided by MCBIT, based in Chile. For any privacy question, write to mcbit.app+vdotra@gmail.com.
2. Summary
- Vdotra has no accounts and no servers of its own. You don't sign up.
- Your records, profile and settings are stored encrypted only on your phone. We never receive them and cannot see them.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob, which collects certain device data to show, measure and protect ads (section 4).
- If the app crashes, it sends a technical report of the error to Firebase Crashlytics (Google) so we can fix it; the report does not include your app data (section 5).
- You can delete all your data from the app at any time.
3. Data you keep in the app
You enter this data yourself and it stays on your device, encrypted in the app's private storage:
| Data | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Athlete profile: name, sex, date of birth, weight and photo | Showing your name and photo in the header and working out your VO₂max rating by age and sex |
| Results and personal records, VDOT, VO₂max and their history | Working out your paces, equivalents and progression |
| Calculation inputs (times, paces, heart rate, saved track series) | Running the calculations you ask for and remembering your last series |
| Settings (theme, language, units, projection model and other preferences) | Making the app work the way you set it up |
- It never leaves your phone unless you choose so: when you export a backup (saved to the file and place you pick) or share an image of your Track splits through Android's share menu.
- Android cloud backup: the app's files are excluded from automatic backup and device-to-device transfer, so your encrypted data is not copied to other services.
- Profile photo: you pick it with the system photo picker; the app only receives the image you choose, does not access the rest of your gallery and asks for no storage permission.
- Weight, date of birth and heart rate may count as personal or health data. They are optional and are never sent to us or to third parties.
4. Ads: data processed by Google AdMob
Vdotra shows ads from Google AdMob (Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited). The Google Mobile Ads SDK built into the app automatically collects and shares with Google data such as:
- the Android advertising ID and other device and app identifiers;
- the IP address, from which an approximate location is derived (not precise GPS location);
- technical device information (model, operating system, language, network);
- ad interactions (ads viewed and tapped) and diagnostic and performance data;
- on Android versions that offer them, the Privacy Sandbox APIs (interest topics and attribution), which the system computes on the device and you can turn off in Android Settings › Privacy › Ads.
Google uses this data to show ads, measure their performance, prevent fraud and, where you consent or the law allows, personalise ads to your interests. Google acts under its own policies: the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Your profile, records and settings are not shared with Google or advertisers.
Consent and ad controls
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before your data is used for personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time from the ad consent option in the app's settings.
- In any country you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings › Privacy › Ads. Without an ID, ads are no longer personalised.
- More information and controls at Google My Ad Center.
5. Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics
The version of Vdotra published on Google Play uses Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) only to find and fix errors. If the app closes because of an error, it sends a report with:
- the technical log of the error (where in the code it happened);
- device and app data: model, Android version, Vdotra version, orientation, and free memory and storage;
- a random installation identifier, which does not identify you and changes if you reinstall the app.
When the app opens it also sends a session notice, with an installation identifier and the same device and app data, to know what share of sessions ends without a crash.
Reports do not include your profile, records, settings or anything you type in the app; they are not used for advertising and are not shared with third parties. Google processes them on our behalf under the Firebase data processing terms.
6. Legal bases
Where the applicable law requires it (for example the GDPR in Europe), the legal basis is: performing the service you request, for the calculations and data stored on your phone; your consent, for personalised ads; our legitimate interest in funding a free app, for non-personalised ads, their measurement and fraud prevention; and our legitimate interest in an app that works without errors, for crash reports.
International transfers: Google may process advertising data and crash reports on servers outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area, with the safeguards described in its policy (for example, the European Commission's standard contractual clauses).
7. Retention and deletion
- App data stays on your phone until you delete it. You can clear your records or delete everything in Settings › Privacy and local data, or uninstall the app, which removes all its data.
- Backups you export are your own files: delete them whenever you like.
- Data processed by Google AdMob is retained under Google's policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics deletes crash reports and their identifiers after 90 days.
8. Your rights
Because we never receive your app data, you can view, correct, export and delete it directly in the app. For advertising data you can exercise your rights with Google through the links in section 4. If you have questions, write to mcbit.app+vdotra@gmail.com; you may also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
9. Children
Vdotra is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age set by the law of your country) and does not knowingly collect children's data. If you believe a child has sent us data, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Security
App data is stored encrypted in the device's private storage, which other apps cannot access. Final security also depends on your phone: use a screen lock.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with its effective date and, if the change is significant, let you know in the app.
